This thread is intended to contain information useful to people travelling to Canada - please feel free to add anything relevant to it! Before we start though, here's some advice from the TT team:

1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask what to do in Toronto, whether to go visit Niagara Falls on their way around the world, and whether it's possible to work under the table/overstay a tourist visa. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to…

Hi

Flying to Havana via Canada and decided to stay a few days rather than go straight through.
Was told(by agent I wont name) that there is an extra Tax of €35 to stay these extra 2 days as now staying overnight. I have never heard of this before.I don't mind paying the difference in flights but tax to stay over rather than transit in Canada anyone ever hear of this?

Cheers

Hey friendly road-trippers and travellers,
Me and a friend are traveling the East Coast of Canada for a bit and wanted to try hitch hiking and ride sharing... Do you have any tips where to look for ride shares and stuff like that?
And just in case someone plans to go up to Cape Breton Island on the 26th/27th we'd be happy to get a ride up there.
Cheers
Sophie

Hi All,
I've read a bit about getting from the Montreal airport to accommodation at night time.

Not a lot of it has reassured me.

Recommendations at that hour have said not to get the bus, however I have also read some stories about cab journeys and attacks that have happened. Any suggestions for how to do this safely late at night?

Thanks!

Hi all,
Days away from visiting Canada and will be arriving in Montreal from London. The flight get in at 9pm.

Any hints about weather or not I'll be able to pick up (at that hour at the airport) a Sim card (iphone 5 - Australian) for my phone that I can use in Canada and the US? Can you get a sim card for both data and calls?

Any information generally on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey.

I'm looking to do some traveling in Canada this January, possibly starting Montreal / Toronto and taking long-distance buses maybe up to Hudson Bay (Churchill?) and / or further West (eg Yellowknife).

I can't find too many details on the web so I was wondering if someone could help me out on

(a) Feasibility of this
(b) Very rough pricing
(c) Time (I assume 24 hours or more is typical)

I'm hoping all roads are open in the winter, and the Greyhounds run with reasonable frequency. I'd…

Hey,

So I'm coming to Canada at the end of August, I'd like to spend around 5 days in Banff- I plan to take the shuttle bus from Calgary airport to Banff. I'll be travelling on my own and without a car so looking for as many tips as possible on how to see the sights around Banff and Jasper using public transport? Does anyone know of any good tours, hostels etc?

From what I've read most people are saying to go to Jasper as well as Banff- is there a bus I could take to do this?

Thanks all :)…
