Boat

From Fortune on Newfoundland, St-Pierre Tours (709-832-0429, 800-563-2006; www.spmexpress.net; 5 Bayview St, Fortune) operates two ferries to St-Pierre. From July to early September, the MV Atlantic Jet (adult/child two to 11 years return $93.50/46.75, one hour) departs at 2:45pm daily. It returns from St-Pierre at 1:30pm. The smaller MV Arethusa (adult/child two to 11 years return $93.50/46.75, 1½ hours) makes the journey Monday to Saturday, leaving Fortune at 7:30am and returning from St-Pierre at 2:45pm, thus making a day trip possible. The ferries also run on a reduced schedule from late April through June and September to mid-October; call for times. The boats carry foot passengers only. Leave your car in the parking lot by the ferry (per day $6).

Air

Air Saint-Pierre (508-410-000, 877-277-7765; www.airsaintpierre.com) flies to St John’s ($144), Montréal ($544) and Halifax ($271). There are two to three flights weekly to each city.
