Land
Bus
DRL Coachlines (709-263-2171; www.drlgroup.com) operates the only cross-island bus route on Newfoundland. It sends one bus per day from St John’s to Port aux Basques ($130, cash only, 13½ hours) via the 905km-long Hwy 1, making 25 stops en route. It leaves at 7:45am from Memorial University’s Student Centre.
Car & motorcycle
Avis, Budget, Dollar, National and Hertz have offices at the airport. Enterprise (709-739-6570; 835 Topsail Rd) and Rent-A-Wreck (709-753-2277; 909 Topsail Rd) are a 20-minute drive from the airport but often have lower rates.
Air
Air Canada (888-247-2262; www.aircanada.com), WestJet (800-538-5696, 888-937-8538; www.westjet.com), Provincial Airlines (800-563-2800; www.provincial airlines.ca) and Continental Airlines (CO; 800-231-0856; www.continental.com) are the main carriers. Astraeus Airlines (5W; 877-428-9425; www.flystar.com) operates charter flights from London.
