This thread is intended to contain information useful to people travelling to Canada - please feel free to add anything relevant to it! Before we start though, here's some advice from the TT team:

1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask what to do in Toronto, whether to go visit Niagara Falls on their way around the world, and whether it's possible to work under the table/overstay a tourist visa. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to…

Hi,
I'm planning to be in PEI for a week in late-ish July.

I'm highly interested in traditional music/dance.

I've found lots of listings for "ceilidhs," concerts, and revues.
But what I'm interested in even more than those types of events is regular people enjoying the local traditional music, be it by playing it, listening to it or dancing to it...
Any advice for where/how to find that?
Are there any of these ceilidh-type events that are more down-to-earth, more targeted towards locals than…

I plan on driving from Montreal to Halifax in August and am looking for a place for an overnight stop. Quebec City is only a bit over 2 hours from Montreal. Any suggestions about a place about midway between Montreal and Halifax that has a selection of hotel/motel accommodations ?

We will be in Vancouver in a couple of week's time and have two teenagers that want to see Grizzly Bears and other Canadian wildlife. We were initially intending to visit the Vancouver Greater Zoo but saw pretty bad feedback on TripAdvisor. So we decided to head to Kamloops and do the zoo there as it had better feedback, as we will be driving to Whistler anyway and wanted to make a loop.

Given the driving distance, we were wondering if we should spend more time in Whistler and do away with the…

Hey guys, so an opportunity to fulfill a life dream has come up: to live and work over in Canada for a year. Only thing is I have two options to choose from, Edmonton or Toronto. Have done heaps of research on both cities, and the more I think about it the harder the decision seems to be! House, job and car are all sorted in both cities, so they aren't an issue.
I come from Melbourne in Australia, a fairly large city I suppose, and I want to experience a complete different environment and…

Hello

I'm attending summer school in Boston and I'd like to visit Montreal in a month's time for the comedy festival. I'll take the Greyhound bus there. I'd also like to do a day trip to Quebec City. Astoundingly, it seems that the price for public transport from Montreal to Quebec City is significantly higher than for Boston to Montreal. Is there any convenient way to go directly from Quebec City back to Boston instead of having to pay the steep prices both ways between Montreal and QC? (I…

Hi there! I've been away from the Thorn Tree, for quite a while. Here's a general article, that I wrote for my yagotta.ca website, about traveling round trip, in the Province of Alberta (where I'm from) and taking the great side trips. Most people make the mistake of going to one or two well known destinations. In the case of the Rocky Mountains, they go to Banff and Lake Louise. At peak season both are horribly congested, with the worst animal of all...Tourists!

This article, will let you know…
