Lonely Planet review

The Bay of Fundy tides and their effects are a predominant regional characteristic. The falls here are part of that and are one of the best-known sites in the province. However, 'reversing falls' is a bit of a misnomer. When the high Bay of Fundy tides rise, the current in the river reverses, causing the water to flow upstream. When the tides go down, the water flows in the normal way. Generally, it looks like rapids.

The Reversing Falls Visitors Centre, next to the bridge over the falls, can supply a Reversing Falls Tide Table brochure that explains where in the cycle you are.

You can also watch a film at the observation deck (admission around C$2 ) above the tourist office. With all the visitors and tour buses during summer you may find the people-watching more of an event than the flowing water.
