Lonely Planet review

The Carleton Martello Tower is just off Lancaster Ave, which leads to the Digby ferry terminal. A Martello tower is a circular two-story stone coastal fortification. They were first built in England and Ireland at the beginning of the 19th century.

In North America, the British built 16 of them during the early 1800s. Inside, explore the restored powder magazine, barracks and the upper two levels that were added during WWII for the defense of the Saint John Harbour. Go when there's no fog because the view is outstanding.
