  1. Carleton Martello Tower

    The Carleton Martello Tower is just off Lancaster Ave, which leads to the Digby ferry terminal. A Martello tower is a circular two-story stone coastal fortification. They were first built in England and Ireland at the beginning of the 19th century.

  2. Cherry Brook Zoo

    In 2002 Saint John cut all funding for the Cherry Brook Zoo so local residents began a monthly sponsorship program. Now the zoo is funded entirely through the program, making it the only 'people's zoo' in Canada. Emphasis is on endangered animals and how to combat extinction. It's a simple place with lots of heart but the animals look overfed and gloomy.

  4. Loyalist House

    Dating from 1810, Loyalist House is the city's oldest unchanged building. The Georgian-style place is now a museum, depicting the Loyalist period and contains some fine carpentry. The monument to the Loyalists next to the house is striking.

  5. Mispec Lighthouse

    After the 25-minute drive to the windswept cliff here you'll swear it was 100 miles to a city from the Mispec Lighthouse . Take a picnic and stop along the way at Mispec Beach. This exhilarating excursion is not in the tourist information. Cross Courtenay Causeway, turn right onto Bayside Dr, then right onto Red Head Rd. Keep going.

  6. Moosehead Country Store

    Moosehead is the country's oldest independent beer maker, dating back to 1867, the year of Confederation. At the time of research the free tours and tastings had been suspended due to the all-too-familiar contemporary security and insurance fears. Call the Moosehead Country Store for the latest news. The store has great logo attire for all you mooseheads.

  7. New Brunswick Museum

    The New Brunswick Museum is a quality museum with a varied collection. There's a captivating section on marine wildlife with an outstanding section on whales including a life-sized specimen. The provincial bird exhibit is comprehensive and the displays on the marine history of Saint John are good, with many excellent models of old sailing ships. There are also hands-on exhibits and worthwhile temporary shows.

  8. Reversing Falls Visitors Centre

    The Bay of Fundy tides and their effects are a predominant regional characteristic. The falls here are part of that and are one of the best-known sites in the province. However, 'reversing falls' is a bit of a misnomer. When the high Bay of Fundy tides rise, the current in the river reverses, causing the water to flow upstream. When the tides go down, the water flows in the normal way. Generally, it looks like rapids.
