A Foodie’s Love Letter to Montreal
Blog: Around The World On The Toilet - 18 October 2011
Of all the lists describing the great culinary countries, you would be hard pressed to ever come across one that include Canada. While pasta is synonymous with Italy, rich creamy sauces with the French, Canada has…. maple syrup? Thankfully this is not the case and one Canadian city that sets the bench mark for Canadian [...]

Charlevoix
Blog: See Simi Travel Blog - 8 November 2010
Born and raised in Montreal, I have been conditioned to believe that I have originated from the best place in Canada, quite possibly the world. Being an English-speaking Montrealer (or “Anglo”) on top of it all, it was rare that I would venture out of the safe compounds of this remaining English enclave. The sole exception to that rule, was a nice overnight trip to Quebec City. However, I had always been curious about the whale watching tours of Eastern Quebec, and one long-weekend I decided to give it a chance.

Montreal Without Clothes
Blog: Uncommontravel - 3 November 2010
I’ve never been to Montreal before. I had planned many things. I had not expected to be worried about basics, Montreal is about so much more than basics. I thought I had those covered. Here we were, touch of France in the north American continent, such a charming juxtaposition, historic hotel, everything perfect, except for those two black things on wheels I get used to traveling with, the ones I take for granted; my luggage i.e. my underwear, my overwear, my toiletries – my life!

La Route des Vins – Quebec
Blog: See Simi Travel Blog - 25 October 2010
We left at 9:30 am to head out towards the Eastern Townships for the day. It took about an hour to do the pick-ups, coffee run and general organization before we could get onto the highway. The Champlain Bridge was packed with people trying to get out of the city. Construction, however, really slowed the drive. At least the weather was amazing. Sunny and warm with the occasional cool breeze. It had been a long time since I had driven down Highway 10. I smiled when I passed the Chambly exit, shocked that I used to do this drive on a daily basis to get to work.

Outstanding Ottawa
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 18 October 2010
I never thought much about Ottawa. I knew it was the capital of Canada and that they had some sports teams, but other than that it wasn’t ever on my radar. When I thought of places I wanted to visit in Canada, destinations like Vancouver, Calgary, Banff, Montreal, Quebec City, the Maritime Provinces all [...]

48 Hours in Montreal, Canada
Blog: An American in London - 18 October 2010
The weekend following the one we spent in Wicklow, Ireland, Jon and I arrived in Montreal to attend another friend’s wedding. At Montreal-Trudeau airport, a bit of karmic payback for all the Canada digs I’ve inflicted on my Canadian friends: a 90-minute queue at immigration. Who knew so many people wanted [...]

Interesting Facts About Canada
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 5 October 2010
Since I’m in Canada this week, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at America’s northern neighbor. There’s a bit of sibling rivalry between these two countries. Canadians love to talk about how unlike America they are and Americans love to point out how much Canada is like us and tease how [...]

Montréal en Anglais
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 22 September 2010
I'm back from Canada - and I have to say, I ♥ Montreal. What fascinated me most about it was how its French heritage meshes with its British history, creating a Francophone city with dashes of Anglophone place names and culture. For example, my hotel (the excellent Hotel St Paul) was on Rue McGill, named after a successful Scottish fur trader, and my nearest Metro station was named after a British monarch.

The Art of Eating
Blog: See Simi Travel Blog - 5 July 2010
Having enjoyed many meals alone while on the road, I like to watch people eat. Not what they are eating really, but what they are doing while they eat. This often makes me compare things to Montreal, my hometown and a real “foodie” city. At home we are all chefs, or so we pretend to be when we dine in. Meals are planned ahead of time, researched on the Internet. We watch cooking shows on a network entirely dedicated to food. Our magazines and weekend newspapers include a section on dining.

Summertime Things to do in Montreal
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 30 June 2010
Before leaving for France one of the best ways to warm up to the French culture is to spend a couple of days in the beautiful city of Montreal, Quebec. Montreal is one of Canada's most beautiful cities. Located on the St. Lawrence River, it has a certain European vibe. Cafés line the sidewalks of Old Montreal, bicycles are readily available for rent, grand old buildings have stood the test of time and old Cathedrals are the cornerstone of French culture and site seeing.

Montreal and the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 8 May 2010
Montreal is an excellent start to any trip to Paris. Enjoy 2 or 3 days in the 2nd largest French speaking city in the world before flying to the largest French speaking city in the world. The great thing about Montreal is that it is officially bilingual so you can practice your French without fear of making mistakes before facing the people of Paris.
