Lonely Planet review

Located in the striking spherical dome of the former American pavilion in the '67 World's Fair, the center has the most spectacular collection of hands-on displays in the entire city. The 'sphere's' raison d'être is to explain the Great Lakes-St Lawrence River ecosystem, which makes up 20% of the planet's water reserves.

Exhibits all involve real water (blow dryers line the wall!) and include work stations where you can experience what happens to the environment when you make a damn and even one station where you can walk on water (yes, literally walk on water). Though primarily geared to kids, it's hard not to be completely impressed no matter how old you are. Creative workshops for kids (eg boat-building from recycled materials) and various art and environment exhibitions are held in summer. The upstairs Visions Hall offers a great view of the river.
