Lonely Planet review

There is a deep vein of fierce competition that runs right through the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, pitting boutique hotel against boutique hotel in a vicious battle for first place. But the design wizards behind Le Saint Sulpice got ahead of the game by creating a unique concept of 'all suites, all comfort', placing them in a league of their own.

Other than an immaculate courtyard terrace with fantastic views of the Notre Dame Basilica and a cavernous lobby lined with thick columns and shiny marbled walls, all free space goes into the rooms. All suites include kitchens and a separate living room with sofas and either a fireplace or balcony. Opt for a terrace-front suite for green views through French doors. The only downfall here is the use of ugly electric fireplaces that clash with the otherwise elegant decoration. The front desk can book limousines, rent mobile phones, and order groceries for you. You can rely on the concierge for theatre tickets and arranging horse-drawn carriage rides. If you're looking for a deal, check ahead for spa packages or rates including champagne and dinner. Look for four flags hanging outside (Canadian, American, Quebec and EU).
