Manitoba Getting there & around

Getting there & around

Major airlines use Winnipeg to service the main Canadian and US Midwest cities. Calm Air connects northern communities with Winnipeg and each other; Kivalliq Air flies Winnipeg to Churchill and Nunavut; and Bearskin Airlines flies to Ontario. For contact details.

Manitoba shares over a dozen US–Canada vehicle border crossings with North Dakota and Minnesota. There are also several routes into Saskatchewan, but only the Trans-Canada Hwy leads into Ontario. Southern Manitoba’s tight road network disappears heading north, where Hwy 10 or Hwy 6 are the two options and services are few.

VIA Rail’s Canadian passes through Winnipeg and southern communities three times a week. Also out of Winnipeg runs the 36-hour, clickety-clack Hudson Bay to subarctic Churchill; a cool feature of this journey is that adventure seekers can request a stop-off/pickup anywhere along the route. Sleepers on the Hudson Bay sell out up to a year in advance.
