There is no road to Churchill; access is by plane or train only.
Land
Train
Many people want to have the full Manitoba experience and arrive in Churchill aboard VIA Rail’s Hudson Bay . The train arrives on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday at 8:30am (it then makes a return trip to Winnipeg at 8:30pm the same night). Boarding the train in Thompson (14 hours one way, coach/berth/room return $120/260/430) saves time and money compared with Winnipeg (36 hours, $375/575/865). The historically renovated station (204-675-2149; Hendry St) triples as a Parks Canada office and natural museum.
Air
Manitoban Calm Airand Winnipeg–Churchill–Nunavut Kivalliq Air use Churchill Airport (YYQ; 204-675-8868), 11km east of town; most accommodations offer drop-off/pickup. Schedules and fares vary, but generally Winnipeg–Churchill return runs from $1000 to $1600 and Thompson–Churchill return is in the $700 to $900 range.
