Lonely Planet review for Eskimo Museum
The Eskimo Museum is really just a bunch of stuff in an unexciting room with linoleum floors, but there's no denying its charm. The obvious standouts - stuffed polar bear, musk ox, wolf and walrus - are immediate attention-grabbers, but closer inspection reveals tiny arrowheads, big harpoon blades and hundreds of carvings. The staff are informative and approachable, and recorded narratives elicit new appreciation for the people who survived and prospered on such a desolate landscape.

The Eskimo Museum is an unexpected delight.
swamprose recommends this,
As a Canadian, I've seen a fair amount of Innu art, but this collection was extraordinary. It is from the golden age of Innu art, the 1950s to around the late 1970s. Yes, it is housed in a room with flourescent light, and I didn't pay much attention to the floor, because what is in the cases is so full of life. There are wonderful walrus tusk stories, carvings that are so so sculptural to be abstract, and others that are only too descriptive. Forget the housing and look at the work. You won't find better in any other Innu art collection, no matter where it is in the world.
