Lonely Planet review for Noodle Box
Southeast Asian cuisine with a strong Malaysian influence is the approach at this buzzing business that started out as a street vendor. A great place for takeout - served in those funky boxes - it's also a chatty eat-in spot. Popular stir-fries include Thai-style chow mein, and the Cambodian Jungle Curry is recommended for those who like their meals with a spicy kick.

Noodle Envy

Headed down Government St., I stumble past the historic Empress hotel, barely glance at the parliament buildings, and leave the Royal BC museum in my dust, for I am headed for something truly amazing. To be facetious amongst local friends, I might say that it's the only reason I come to Victoria: Noodle Box.
This is not your run of the mill asian take-out place. If you don't believe me just look at the line-up down the sidewalk during the lunch rush. These are the addicts; those who've tried the box and now struggle to go days without. To this crowd, the mere mention of the name Noodle Box sends them into a frenzy.
Now maybe you're thinking, if it's that good, it must be expensive, but that my friend is where you're wrong. At Noodle Box almost everything on the menu sits around $10 CAD, and there is only one size: box.
Walking up Douglas St., box in hand, I can actually see people who are deciding to go to Noodle Box just by looking at the package I'm carrying. It may look small, but those who've ever tried to finish the near one pound of food crammed into the box will certainly disagree.
Soon enough, the smell emanating from the box becomes too alluring to bear and I quickly find a seat and dive right in. The robust flavour of my Spicy Peanut Noodle Box with both prawns and tofu envelops me and I soon realize that I have lost track of the world around me. I worry I may have embarrassed myself but when I look around I just see other people gazing downwards into Noodle Boxes of their own.
Did they have those before or did they just go get them?
I ponder that thought for a moment and then turn to more pressing issues; there is still food in the box.
