Sights in Sea To Sky Highway

  1. Brackendale Art Gallery

If you’re in Brackendale in January, drop by the quirky Brackendale Art Gallery, the center of the area’s biggest wildlife claim to fame. The winter feeding ground for thousands of salmon-scoffing bald eagles, the village lures legions of binocular-clad visitors who flock around the gallery’s eccentric owner Thor Froslev as he coordinates the winter bird count. Thor’s rustic gallery is lined with eagle-inspired paintings and photos and has a cozy café that could double as a hobbit hole.

  2. West Coast Railway Heritage Park

Historic-train nuts should continue just past town to the popular West Coast Railway Heritage Park. This large, mostly alfresco museum is the final resting place of British Columbia’s legendary Royal Hudson steam engine and has around 90 other historic railcars, including 10 working engines and the original prototype SkyTrain car. Check out the new Roundhouse building, housing the park’s most precious artifacts.

  3. Britannia Mine Museum

Just before the town on Hwy 99, the Britannia Mine Museum is a popular stop. Once the British Empire’s largest copper mine, it’s been preserved with an impressive restoration. Its underground train tour into the pitch-black mine tunnels is a highlight and there are plenty of additional kid-friendly exhibits – including gold panning – plus a large artsy gift shop.
