   A friendly locals' hangout where you'll easily end up sticking around for an hour or two, especially if you hit the loungey sofas with a tome purchased from the bookstore downstairs. Grilled paninis are the way to go for lunch (try the Nero) but there's always a good soup special. Then nip upstairs to the surprisingly large and diverse craft shop.

    Just across from the Salmon Stewardship Centre, this excellent reinvention of a once-tired resto-bar is a revelation. The old-school dining room (try for a booth) has been enlivened with local artworks and there's live Friday and Saturday guitar music to keep things animated. The menu combines simple home-cooked dishes with lip-smacking European fare like Hungarian goulash and Vienna schnitzel – go for Friday's pork-roast special. Excellent service.
