Canada Branch FAQ

This thread is intended to contain information useful to people travelling to Canada - please feel free to add anything relevant to it! Before we start though, here's some advice from the TT team:

1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask what to do in Toronto, whether to go visit Niagara Falls on their way around the world, and whether it's possible to work under the table/overstay a tourist visa. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to…

Do it yourself or book a tour operator to BC & AB

I’m planning out approximately 10 days in mid-June touring through Vancouver, British Columbia and Alberta with these recommended stops in BC & AB: Vancouver, Okanagan Valley, Kelowna, Banff National Park, Lake Louise, Hinton, Jasper, Blue River, Kamloops, Whistler, Horseshoe Bay and Victoria. This itinerary is a lot of driving, almost 3 to 6 hours each day. It also seems like limited time in each spot with an early morning departure – am I right? Considering cost, does this make more sense…

Toronto bound

Hello all fellow travel lovers!

I'm headed to Toronto and need a little information to help plan my trip.

I will fly into Toronto and will arrive in the international terminal. I want to take the subway into downtown Toronto. My hotel is the InterContinental Yorkville.

Where do I catch the bus at the airport to go to the subway station? My understanding is the bus is a short trip travel time. Once I arrive at the subway station, is it pretty easy to buy a ticket, can I use my debit/credit…

Best Cycling Section of "Kettle Valley Rail Trail", Southern BC

I am seeking opinions for the best section of the Kettle Valley Trail to cycle. Can it be self-organized as in 'hire a bike' and then 'ship it to the starting point in a 7-seater van'. Well there needs to be a driver who won't be cycling obviously.

Pls feel free to chip in and all the best!

Safe place to store my car.

Hello guys, I have moved to Canada very recently. I have got a job at Toronto and stays nearby my office. Right now I need a place to store my car. My current accomodation does not have a garage or a parking space. I am looking into some good self storage facilities available here where they provide vehicle storing facilities. I won't be using the car often as the office is at a walking distance. And I can use public transport for other needs. So I would like to get some suggestions on this…

Horse riding & fishing long weekend Alberta

Hi everyone
We're starting to plan a trip to the Calgary Stampede in 2016 (early, I know, but I'm going to use Avios points for the flights so have to be organised) We would like to spend a few days at a mountain ranch or resort with trail riding and fishing for experienced riders & fisherpeople. We are looking for somewhere with a decent restaurant that's not too isolated or overly 'family friendly' Has anyone suggestions for particular places or relevant websites? I'm finding it difficult…

Travelling&Working to Canada, is BUNAC worth the cost?

Hello,
I've paid a £100 deposit with BUNAC and with the help of their services I've successfully received a World Tracking Number (WTN) on the first release date and now planning out my 24 month work permit in Canada.
I now have to pay the remaining £259 for the Essential package or £499 Ultimate package to continue using their services through the remaining steps of the work permit application.
I've graduated university and during the 24 months will be searching for a graduate job when I'm…

Aurora borealis sightings

We are in the midst of some major solar activity of late. If you happen to be anywhere semi-north and can find a place with no lights, get up at 3 a.m. to see a spectacular display of northern lights. I did the last 2 nights and it was well worth losing sleep.

Best scenery between Vancouver and Calgary?

I need to book a bus leaving Vancouver in the next few days for Banff, and then to Calgary. Since it takes 13-16 hours, I want to know which end of the trip would be most mountainous, dramatic, whatever, so that part can be in daylight. Advice please!
