HiFi Club
The HiFi is a hybrid. Rap, soul, house; electro, funk; the dance floor swells nightly to the sounds of live DJs who specialize in making you sweat. Check out Sunday Skool, the weekly soul and jazz session or Saturday night's showcase for touring bands and DJs.

St James's Gate Olde Irish Pub
As Celts pretty much opened up western Canada and gave their name to the town of Banff, it's hardly surprising to find an Irish pub in the park and rather a good one at that. Aside from stout on tap and a healthy selection of malts, St James's offers classic pub grub such as burgers and stew.

Lake Louise Ski Area
Near the Samson Mall, Lake Louise Ski Area ranks among Canada's largest ski areas, boasting a 1000m drop and 28.5 sq km of terrain spread over four mountain faces. (The three resorts near Banff work together and sell passes good at all three.)

Halo Lounge
A small, clamorous basement nightclub with Brit-biased music ranging from mod to alt rock, Halo has a kind of '70s lava lamp feel. The dance floor is compact and rarely empty.

Bison Mountain Bistro
The Bison might look like it's full of trendy, well-off Calgarians dressed in expensive hiking gear, but its prices are actually very reasonable (nothing over $20). And rather than saturating the menu in AAA Alberta beef, there are big salads here and weird starch-heavy pizzas with butternut squash and rosemary potato toppings. The modern decor is set off by an outdoor patio and ground-floor boutique deli that serves up gourmet cheese and other such delights.

Hiking Trails
Some excellent hiking trails meander off the Bow Valley Parkway (Hwy 1A), northwest of Banff. The Parkway branches off from, but finally rejoins, the Trans-Canada Hwy en route to Lake Louise. Waterfalls are the lure of a trail that follows the sparkling waters of Johnston Creek, which has creatively carved its way through the soft limestone of Johnston Canyon. The trail is paved as far as the Lower Falls (2.2km).
The next 3.2km stretch to the Upper Falls is more challenging but worth it for the views.
A further - and mostly untraveled - 6.2km brings you to the Ink Pots, five small springs of blue and green water surrounded by snowy peaks.

Bison
At street level this chic restaurant has an upscale deli serving exquisite little sandwiches and other gourmet treats. Upstairs the bright and airy dining room overlooks both the peaks and an open kitchen. Wood-fired pizzas are tops, as are boldly flavored seafood and meat mains. Many specials.
