Steakhouse restaurants in Alberta

  1. A

    Hardware Grill

When you really want to impress even yourself, head to this plush oasis high on a bluff above the river in what is traditionally the seedier part of town. The Hardware occupies an old (for Edmonton) redbrick building that has retained its more elegant features and spruced up the rest. Signposts promise an ambitious triumvirate of 'comfort, flavor and panache,' a boast at least partly fulfilled in expertly prepared duck breast, lamb rack and Alberta beef.

  2. B

    Caesar's Steak House

Well, why wouldn't you? You're in the heart of beef country, so it's only polite to sink your teeth into some prime Alberta AAA steak.

  3. The Wood

Plenty of wood and a big fireplace create a relaxed, sophisticated vibe in this log building in Canmore's town center. If you're having a day off from AAA Alberta steak (not easy here), plump for the excellent salmon burger with a Dijon tartar relish.

  4. C

    Saltlik

With rib-eye in citrus rosemary butter and peppercorn NY striploin on the menu, Saltlik is clearly no 'Plain Jane' steakhouse knocking out flavorless T-bones. No, this polished dining room abounds with rustic elegance and a list of steaks the length of many establishments' entire menu. In a town not short on steak-providers, this could be No 1.

    Melissa's Restaurant

Melissa's is a casual ketchup-on-the-table type of place in an old heritage building dating from 1928. It's huge in the local community and has an equally huge selection of food and price ranges. Nonetheless, its brunch, dinnertime steaks and deep-dish pizzas are probably its most defining dishes.
