Lonely Planet review for Fort Edmonton Park

If the weather is nice, head to Fort Edmonton Park, where you can see a slice of the old west, right in amidst the city. Walk along the vintage streets lined with period buildings or take the steam train for a spin. Costumed guides are there to answer questions and add some flavor. There is a small amusement park for the kiddies too - who knew that miniature golf had such a long history?

A Great Slice of Old Edmonton

    jennamarie recommends this,

I really like Fort Edmonton Park. It recently added a theatre, which puts on performances of mostly classic theatre. Fort Ed is broken into 4 sections. The first is the Fort itself, which is really interesting because it recounts the days of trappers and traders. I imagine it would be really neat to someone new to Canadian culture. 1885 street is next, and it has some interesting info in it as well. There is a restaurant and a pub, as well as a bakery that serves delicious lemonade and brownies. The cultural interpreters tend to gardens. 1905 street is next, basically showing how the city changed in these 20 years. There are a lot of neat buildings to check out.
The 1920's area consists of a pub, Hotel Selkirk (which is all decked out like the 20s with 20s staff), and an airplane hanger. It ends with an old fashioned midway.
Fort Ed is a really good time, and occasionally holds special festivals etc.
    Check it out.
