Lonely Planet review for Shumka
You can't come to Edmonton and not tuck into some good Ukrainian food. With a huge Ukrainian population, the city is speckled with authentic options. Shumka is a standout, although your first impression will be, 'I drove all the way out here for this?' Don't let the mini-mall location discourage you; the pierogi and cabbage rolls are topnotch.

Food Court Treasure
nouveau recommends this,
My friend and I have been shopping around the mall for close to 4 hours. I need a break. The food court beckons me with it's alluring scents, snazzy signs, and deals.
What am I in the mood for? Nothing greasy, something I would make at home. Something homey, European, yet fast. No burgers and fries for me. My friend tells me I'm looking for a restaurant. But our feet are so tired, WE JUST WANT TO EAT.Through the sea of tables and seats, we make a beeline for Shumka. Hmm, Ukrainian. This sounds like it might meet expectations.
30 minutes later: It exceeded my expectations. We ordered a Maxi Plate, which included (out of a choice of 4 varieties) cheddar & potato perogies, breaded chicken breast, and cabbage rolls complete with sour cream and real bacon bits. My favorite things. German sausages and sauerkraut were also available as well as a small selection of desserts, like baklava. They were fast, yet fresh, definitely non-greasy, and tasty. Just like Oma used to make. Best of all, you can buy your very own frozen Shumka perogies to make at home! I buy 3 bags. My shopping for the day is officially complete.
