Rose & Crown
Banff's oldest pub (since 1985!) is a fairly standard British-style boozer with pool tables and a rooftop patio. Out of all the town's drinking houses, it is best known for its live music, which raises the rafters seven nights a week – everything from communal singalongs to Seattle grunge.

St James Gate
An ersatz upscale English pub replete with lots of dark wood and snugs, this place packs 'em in for the 24 beers on tap, stiff drinks and tasty fish and chips. It gets crowded late as the pals of the staff drop by after the places they work close.

Elk & Oarsman
Upstairs with a crow's-nest view of Banff Ave, this is the town's most refined pub. The rooftop patio is prime real estate in the summer and the kitchen will fix you up with some good food if you so desire.

Tommy's Neighbourhood Pub
Tommy's pub grub menu stretches to crab cakes and spinach artichoke dip. More importantly for traditionalists there's good draft beer, a darts board, and plenty of opportunity to meet the kind of globe-trotting mavericks who have made Banff their temporary home.

St James's Gate Olde Irish Pub
As Celts pretty much opened up western Canada and gave their name to the town of Banff, it's hardly surprising to find an Irish pub in the park and rather a good one at that. Aside from stout on tap and a healthy selection of malts, St James's offers classic pub grub such as burgers and stew.
