The Wild Guys conquer Cambodia
Blog: Siampedia - the wild years in Southeastasia - 12 March 2011
© Frank P. Schneidewind This trip with my Austrian friends started more like a nightmare. The ordered chauffeur for a planned 6 AM departure at our starting point near Bangkok, did leave us waiting and overslept his alarm clock. So he told us, when he finally showed up two hours late! 6 friends were [...]

Franky’s Motorcycle-School in Sihanoukville
Blog: Siampedia - the wild years in Southeastasia - 23 November 2010
© Frank P. Schneidewind We took the G.S.T. bus again in Phnom Penh, in order to get to Sihanoukville quick. The sleepy town on the coast is connected to the capital by a well maintained and surfaced road. Snooky's old name was Kampong Som, but to honor their King, it was renamed a long time [...]

The SIAMPEDIA Expedition to Cambodia – Eastbound pioneering
Blog: Siampedia - the wild years in Southeastasia - 6 September 2010
© 2010 Frank P. Schneidewind My Malaysian company car was a loyal companion for the professional years, which I spent near Kuala Lumpur in the Klang Valley. Made by Proton with all the whistles and bells, but a meager power output. When the company folded, I ended up with it and became the legal [...]

2010-05-27 | Massacre during the night | Day 635
Blog: 2 Wheels - 1 World - 0 Money - 27 May 2010
The heat takes it out of everybody. Even the locals complain, "It's the hottest in years." But recently the rain started and cooled everything down a bit. With the rain, the fauna gets re-invigorated. When I stepped out my door last night - and you have to know, there's a lightbulb just outside and above the door - a swarm of curious insects greeted me. They were all eaten soon after. Either by the gecko sitting nearby. Or by the ants who got a go at the ones that lost their wings before they were eaten by the gecko.

2010-05-23 | Culinary miracle! | Day 631
Blog: 2 Wheels - 1 World - 0 Money - 23 May 2010
After having been on the road for 630 days, one might start to think about things from home that are missed. Only yesterday I talked with other European travellers about favourite meals that we haven't had in a long while. We all agreed on South-East-Asian-style chicken curry being extremely delicious, but then and again I would really like a German Currywurst (sausage) with ketchup. Only 12 hours later, a miracle happened – I'm serious. The menu in a restaurant on the beach stated: "Currywurst - $2.50". These are prices like home, but guess what I ordered!

2010-05-21 | No heart transplant, please | Day 629
Blog: 2 Wheels - 1 World - 0 Money - 21 May 2010
Some people might fly to Bangkok and get their teeth fixed for less money, but I don't think, that anyone goes to Cambodia and voluntarily enjoy the medical facilities. On the picture (above), one can see parking lot, waiting room and patient room of a hospital, but the theatre is another story. I'm glad I got band-aids and Aspirin with me for emergencies.

2010-05-20 | One bar after another | Day 628
Blog: 2 Wheels - 1 World - 0 Money - 20 May 2010
Sihannoukville, what am I doing here? I wanted to explore more of Cambodia, but not an Asian version of the infamous, European Mallorca. Ok, I'm exaggerating, of course, but I'm not used to this. The great thing about traveling on a motorbike is, I don't have to stick to the beaten path. This time though, I must have ended up where the tourist busses stop.

Sihanoukville
Blog: Orn's travel blog - South-East Asia and China - 12 February 2010
We are now in Sihanoukville, a port city that connects Cambodia to the Gulf of Thailand. It is a nice town with a few beaches, nice restaurants and a lively nightlife. The town seems to be in some sort of a transition, I think it is about to become popular but hasn’t quite gotten there. Last [...]

Sihanoukville, Ocean Walk Inn, Otres Beach and M'lop Mean Seafood Restaurant
Blog: The Fashionate Traveller - 12 January 2010
And so we returned to Sihanoukville, after 3 idyllic days on Ko Rong Saloem. Being high season, we'd booked our accom for the next 3 nights before we went away, to save being stranded.

Sihanoukville in December 09. Same Same but Different.
Blog: The Fashionate Traveller - 6 January 2010
If you are up with larks you may want to stay on the riverfront in Phnom Penh. However, if you are a late night owl, like us, falling in the door at 3 and wanting to sleep til noon, you may want to try somewhere else. The River Star hotel was fine in itself, but the jackhammering that commenced after 5hours sleep was not pleasant. At 8am I was roused from my much needed slumber by the raucous sounds of machinery hitting concrete. Urgh...
