Wow. What an adventure. I left Sikhiu in Nakhon Ratchasima province (where I lived and taught English for a semester)on Wed Oct 1, 2014 and got to Korat Bus Terminal around noon that day. The bus to Kantharalak would depart at 2pm but it was 10 to 3 when it actually departed. The entire bus, save for 3 civilians including me, was full of Thai soldiers. When I got to Kantharalak just before 9 pm, I was greeted by a light show of a carnival adjacent to the bus terminal. It was bizarre that this…
Would it feasible to drive around Cambodia on a rented car? Would be very grateful to hear from those who have done it. Thanks a lot!
(We have driven in Sri Lanka, Morocco and Bali, so very little should be able to faze us.)
I have a few days to check out the temples and would like to be close to a popular area. I like to stay away late at night so noise isn't really a problem. Just looking for cool/funky/fun hotel in the Siem Reap area. Not really interested in staying at a hostel. I did that circuit a few decades ago and had a lot of fun, but those days are behind me. :)
In Cambodia right now. Some road updates...
From Siem Riep to Kompong Cham, 7 hourx with bumpy and dusty road. Cost 7 USD with hotel pick-up.
From Kompong Cham to Phnom Penh nearly 4 hours with ultra bumpy and dusty road. Cost 5.5 USD.
I am a British citizen arriving by plane into Siem Reap airport. Am I correct that I can get a tourist visa on arrival and will just need to bring with me, two passport photos and $20 to obtain the visa?
This is what I've read in guide books and the FCO website so I am just asking to be sure that this is correct, so sorry if this is an obvious question.
I'm spending 4 days in Siem Reap from 30 Oct. Angkor Wat big on my list, just wanted to know what else I should be making an effort to see or experience.
And whether Tonle Sap is worth a trip.
And the debate between experiencing either sunrise or sunset or BOTH. Which is worth doing?
would like to do some countryside cycling too.
Has anyone entered and got a VOA at Poipet recently (in the past week or two)? If so I'd just like to know the current situation. I believe one-month tourist visa is now $USD30. Are they accepting $30 in USD or do they insist on THB? If so how much do they ask in THB?
Also after getting Cambodia VOA how's the transport situation on to Siem Reap? What should I expect to pay for a ride to SR (something reasonably comfortable with AC) and approx. time to get to SR from Poipet.
Thanks in advance.…
Just made my first Thailand Visa run. It wasn't easy. I wrote a blog post and drew a map to help the next traveler.
