The best base for a visit to Prasat Preah Vihear is Sra Em, 27km south of the temple, which has the feel of a Wild West boomtown. Most of the guesthouses are, shall we say, rudimentary, and cater to soldiers and their families. Sok San Guesthouseis cut from a different cloth and is the smartest (relatively speaking) in town. The 36 rooms include hot-water bathrooms, and remarkably for this remote outpost free wi-fi is available.
