Lonely Planet review for temples
At the summit of this fabled limestone outcrop, 12km southwest of Battambang along NH57 (towards Pailin), a complex of temples - several built recently thanks to donations from overseas Khmers - affords gorgeous views of the surrounding plains and, to the south, Phnom Banan. Some of the macaques that live around the summit, dining on bananas left as offerings, are pretty ornery.

Banan temple was quiet, beautiful and relaxing
bareebo recommends this,
We went to Banan temple from Battambang in February of 2012. The drive from Battambang city to Banan temple was one of the prettiest drives we took in Cambodia. There was also a great little restaurant about 1km before the turnoff to the Banan temple grounds. The restaurant is called the HoneyComb and is situated right on the Sangker River! Their specialty is grilled honeycomb, a Cambodian delicacy. However, being that they are only using sustainably harvested honeycomb (i.e they don't buy honeycomb that was harvested by killing the bees), they do not have it all the time (like when we went). That said, we had a great lunch of real Khmer food, drank a couple of draft beers ($2.25 a pitcher!), and watched children playing in the river, women washing clothes in the river, and some men fishing from a dugout canoe! Really amazing and a great way to get in the mood to head up to the temple itself.
We got there near sunset so the place was deserted, which was nice. The temple was colored in a varied spectacle of color and the views over looking the plains below was magical! We headed down at dusk, asked our tuk tuk driver to take us back to the HoneyComb Restaurant, and drank a couple of more beers as the last light faded over the river. A really great day!
