And now for something completely different… Set on the banks of the Mekong, these wooden bungalows offer the perfect slice of river life. Hot water is a pleasant surprise and each has a balcony to soak up the sunset.
Long one of the smartest hotels in town. There is a popular breakfast restaurant downstairs. Fan rooms are a good deal, but it’s a long hike to the upper floors if you want the Mekong views.

A new riverfront property, the rooms here are enticing thanks to a real bath, hot water and cable TV. It was expanding during our visit, so looks set for bigger things.
The sign proclaims it a Gust House, but don’t be put off by the windbags, as this place attracts some bright young things thanks to good-value rooms and impressive food. The cheapest rooms have a shared bathroom with hot water.
A lively little shoes-off guesthouse between the market and the riverfront. As well as a good mix of rooms, there’s a buzzing little bar-restaurant and internet access.
Back under the stewardship of the original family, this budget crashpad looks set to take off again thanks to cheap rooms and wholesome meals. Popular spot for a beer or two at night.

Akin to a boutique homestay, this small lodging opened in 2011 with three rooms decorated with Sino-Khmer furnishings from the colonial period.
