Lonely Planet review for Mehana Pri Shopite

[ourpick] Mehana Pri Shopite Set in a traditional, tavern-style courtyard around a twisted, 300-year-old fig tree, this is a welcoming place with great food, including numerous kinds of freshly caught fish plus grills, steaks and some vegetarian options.

    Tourist trap: to avoid

    stefco01 does not recommend this,

This restaurant is recommended as "our pick" and there WAS a good reason for that. We visited it several times in previous years and it was indeed a good adress.
However, today we visited it again and it is obviously a new owner, who is only interested in stealing from tourists. The menu does not mention prices for any of the drinks. We asked for a bottle of white wine and were served smth undrinkable which i suspect were leftovers pourred in a bottle since I have never tasted ANY bulgarian wine that bad. We complained and got another bottle (ok, but nothing more and expensive) The fish was eatable (but nothing special). When the bill came, they charged us 155 lev for two mains (fish), a bottle of wine and some water. They pretended my wife and I ate 1.2 kilos of fish which is complete nonsense. (half would be more like it). They also added a 10% service charge that is not mentioned anywhere (and is not standard practice for Bulgaria) We argued and they admitted to cheating (!) but claimed the fish was 400 gr each (rather than our 300 estimate). To prove their point they took us to the kitchen to show a similar fish on the scale. We then noticed that all fish comes straight from the freezer (whereas they expressly vanted it as being "dayfresh"). We finally paid 125, which is about the most we ever paid during our many visits to Nesebar (and it was definitely not justified). We noticed another (russian) guest was arguing about the bill while we were eating and left her daughter to find an ATM. This place is not only not recommendable anymore: it has become a tourist trap. Everyone should avoid it
