Hi, can anyone advise me the best way to travel overland from Bulgaria to Georgia (Batumi)? I'd rather not fly as I like visiting new places along the way but it seems that the ferries are no longer running and there won't be any trains in and out of Ankara... Many thanks to anyone who can help!
I'm looking at going to Borovets next month and have been looking at either joining an organised trip or heading out myself to walk or cycle a shorter tour.
However most trips are either single day or 7 to 8.
Are there any suggestions for a 3 or 4 day trip?
Thanks in advance
Does anyone have a recommendation for a company to deal with to hire a car in Sofia (for 4 days) to drive to Greece and back?
I'm looking for cheap and preferably one where I'm not going to be completely price gouged for crossing a border. I've dealt with http://www.eurorentacarbg.com/ before and they were perfect. 25 euros a day and didn't care that I crossed the border. Sadly though they have nothing available for the period I want it (which is next week). It's frustrating because I…
We are travelling to Bulgaria in July for ten days. I would really appreciate feed back on our plan!
Our flights take us into Bourgas, where we pick up our car rental, and stay for one night, then we are driving to Plovdiv.
We are then going to Devin for a wedding for two nights.
From Devin, we are considering trying to take in the 7 Rila Lakes or going straight to Sophia.
From Sophia, after one or two nights, we want to drive to Belogradchik and spend one night to see the fortress.
I will be crossing into Bulgaria from Niš, Serbia in 2 days. 5 days later I fly to Kiev for 4 days from Sofia and back again. I am thinking of going off to Macedonia for a bit then crossing back into Bulgaria and making my way east to the coast. So i will have 3 entrances in probably 2 - 3 weeks. Will this raise any eyebrows? I just want to make sure they wont think why is this guy going back and forward
I will be going to Sofia in September. i have an option of either going for 3 days or going for 5 days. Which one is better? I was thinking with a 5 day plan, I can look around other cities in Bulgaria also. I don't yet know which all places I'm going to visit. But if someone has any suggestions, please do come forward!:)
The old town Plovdiv really deserve the reputation of being possibly the most beautiful city in Bulgaria. Some really beautiful architecture there.
BG railways are undergoing metamorphosis which is good I guess. However, the stations in bigger cities now are only half done and always missing something; it's sometimes difficult to get in, to find information on departures or departing platform, sometimes difficult to get out or to find the ticket office. On a positive note, tickets…
Rila Monastery, one of BG's first christian monasteries is some 120km away from Sofia. The monastery architecture is beautiful and the nature is nice too. I visited the monastery when forests were changing colours in autumn and it was wonderful on a sunny day.
Rila Monastery is one of the most popular days out of Sofia and agencies charge €25pp from April-October and 35pp from November-March. The fact less known is that Rila Monastery can be done independently on public transport…
