For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
I have read a report that the staff of Brazilian embassies around the world are on strike. Does anyone know if this is true? I need a visa by October or my travel plans will need to change.
Just a warning for people wanting to take an overnight bus between Sao Paolo and Foz de Iguazu. Last night the bus got held up at gunpoint at 3am in the morning. 3 masked men with automatic weapons and pistols took over the bus and diverted to a dark field, where they took cash and only left because the police came.
We were on the 18.30pm Pluma bus from Sao Paolo.
The police said it's happened several times the last month, so for the time this is an unsafe route at night and I would opt for a…
flying to PA this September and travelling south to Uruguay. I have two sets of questions.
As regards PA, how much time do you think I should spend there? Also, in which part of the city should I look for accommodation and go out (safely) at night? And finally, what do you absolutely recommend to do in town (what to see, eat, drink or whatever)?
As regards going south, since I have not a lot of time I was thinking to get a bus to Chuy from PA. Do you think instead that there is any…
I am looking for suggestions of day trips from Rio de Janeiro. I will be there in November while my significant other attends a conference. I am looking for any suggestions outside of Rio that would include travel there and back in 1 day by car/train/bus. I am a photographer and enjoy finding small towns, old city centers and interesting architecture.
Have any ideas?
Thank very much!
HI! my husband and I are looking for another couple to reduce the travel expenses of the "Classic tour" of the company Jeri Off Road to visit the Lencois Maranhenses 31/8, 1-2/9.
The price will fall from 1890 Real to 1150.
Let us, we can't wait to start this new adventure!
Hi, I'm a solo traveller on a budget looking for the best way to see lencois maranhenses. I'm in Sao luis just now thinking of getting the bus to barreirinhas in the next few days. Have heard lota about the tours you can do but they seem a little expensive so hoping to hear from anyone who has done it alone. Also happy for anyone to join if they are in the area. I have about 5 daya to spend there.
Am from India. Planning a trip to South America. Manaus in the Amazon will be my starting point. We are a family of 3 adults.
Want to know safe options for transport from Manaus airport to hotel (which is likely to be in Manaus city) and the cost.
A local travel agent has quoted USD64 per head which does not make sense to me.
I am a single traveler flying into Manaus in mid-September, and thinking of spending 4-5 days to see the city and the Amazon - before flying to Belem.
Can someone recommend some Amazon tour outfitters that they've had good experiences with? And that time of the year, Is it necessary or recommended to book ahead -- or just sign up in Manaus?
Any other insights appreciated!
