Getting there & around
The 15-minute ferry trip between São Sebastião and Ilhabela runs every half hour from 6am to midnight (often until much later in summer). Cars cost R$11 weekdays and R$16 on weekends, motorcycles cost R$5 weekdays and R$8 on weekends, and it’s free for pedestrians. A local bus (R$2) links the ferry with the nearby town of Vila Ilhabela.
A decent road runs the length of the western coast. Another unsealed road (22km) crosses the island. To get to the other side of the island requires either a 4WD, a boat or a good strong pair of hiking legs.
