For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
I am looking for suggestions of day trips from Rio de Janeiro. I will be there in November while my significant other attends a conference. I am looking for any suggestions outside of Rio that would include travel there and back in 1 day by car/train/bus. I am a photographer and enjoy finding small towns, old city centers and interesting architecture.
Have any ideas?
Thank very much!
HI! my husband and I are looking for another couple to reduce the travel expenses of the "Classic tour" of the company Jeri Off Road to visit the Lencois Maranhenses 31/8, 1-2/9.
The price will fall from 1890 Real to 1150.
Let us, we can't wait to start this new adventure!
Hi, I'm a solo traveller on a budget looking for the best way to see lencois maranhenses. I'm in Sao luis just now thinking of getting the bus to barreirinhas in the next few days. Have heard lota about the tours you can do but they seem a little expensive so hoping to hear from anyone who has done it alone. Also happy for anyone to join if they are in the area. I have about 5 daya to spend there.
Am from India. Planning a trip to South America. Manaus in the Amazon will be my starting point. We are a family of 3 adults.
Want to know safe options for transport from Manaus airport to hotel (which is likely to be in Manaus city) and the cost.
A local travel agent has quoted USD64 per head which does not make sense to me.
I am a single traveler flying into Manaus in mid-September, and thinking of spending 4-5 days to see the city and the Amazon - before flying to Belem.
Can someone recommend some Amazon tour outfitters that they've had good experiences with? And that time of the year, Is it necessary or recommended to book ahead -- or just sign up in Manaus?
Any other insights appreciated!
I will be arriving at Brasilia airport just after midnight this coming Saturday (Sunday morning), and needing to get to the north hotel sector (Mercure Lider Hotel, near TV tower) by the cheapest route that is safe at that time. Airport buses stop at 23:00, so what other options are there? If I have to take a taxi, how much will that cost me?
I will arriving late afternoon in Brasilia and leaving the day after, and would like if possible to stay in an area where I can also go out on the night, like for eating something and have a drink, taking into account that I won't have a car. What would you suggest? If there is not such an area, what is the best place to stay and what the best place to go out for eating-drinking (I'm not going to party, so don't need clubs or something). Finally, how safe is Brasilia at night (I live in…
Hi! My partner and I are Kiwis in our mid twenties and are embarking on a 3 month trip of South America. We will be spending 6 days in Rio de Janeiro - flying in on a Monday afternoon and out again on Saturday. I've heard that Ilha Grande is beautiful, so I was wondering what people think about taking a side trip from Rio to visit the island? It would probably just be one night... Is that worthwhile? Or should we just stay in Rio and really make the most of it?
Other places we will visit on our…
We are thinking of going to Fernando De Noronha in October. We plan to leave from Natal. We are fluent in Portuguese. Any info would be helpful as I am being told that Lonely Planet books are a few years old. Places not to miss, expense, affordability, etc. Do we need a rental? Bring snorkeling gear? Do we have to rent boat, etc.
