For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea.…
I'll be arriving to Conselheiro Lafaiete, MG, around 4:00AM from Rio de Janeiro. The idea is to wait at the bus station until 6/7AM to take a bus to Congonhas.
My questions are: how safe is to wait at 4:00AM probable alone at the bus station??? Would be any coffe shop open at that tome where I can wait???
If anyone has been around and could answer my questions, I would appreciate.
We will be in Rio 12th Feb- 19th Feb for Carnival, and we are slightly confused as to where to go from there. We need to end up at Iguaçu Falls, where we plan on getting a flight to Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
The options are to head down the coast to Sao Paulo, stopping at Ilha Grande & maybe Trinidad, and then either bus it or fly to the falls. Or fly to Salvador and get an onward flight to Iguaçu Falls. Is there any logical way to visit the coast (Ilha Grande), and go to Salvador,…
Me and my friend Louise would really appreciate any suggestions you have for how to get from Colombia to Rio on a very tight budget. We are going to Rio for carnival so flights are nearly GBP500! We know that other methods (bus, boat down the amazon?!) might take a long time but we have no choice as we can´t afford the flight.
Rome2Rio says 5 days and that is getting buses via Peru. Is there a more direct way?

We are currently booking a trip to Brazil next year. We will be there for about two and a half weeks.
We have most of our route planned. We do not want to go to the Amazon as we have been there before and have other areas we want to see more.
We are undecided about the Pantanal - is it just similar to the Amazon? We don't want to go and feel it was a waste of time (been to similar and also costly).
Has anyone been to Pantanal and the Amazon and is able to compare?
We have been to the…
Hi everyone! I'll be travelling from the 15th to the 31th of January in Belem (15-18), Alter do Chão(19-24) and Marajo (28-30) and I'm doing the boat trip from Santarem to Belem in the 25th of January. Does anyone will be around in this dates?
I'm on my second 90 day tourist visa in Brazil. I've lived here previously for three and half years in SP but currently living in Rio Grande do Sul with a guy. I"m looking at ways to extend my stay while I work out if this relationship is something I really want to commit to. The idea of marriage has been raised between us but more for the sake of not being forced to leave than because either of us really believes strongly in the institution of marriage or has romantic fantasies of a lovely…

After doing exhaustive searches on both the internet and here on thorntree, I have to turn to the fellow travelers on this board. If anyone knows the answer and has recent information, it will be greatly appreciated! We are planning to take the slow boat from Manaus to Tefe (which thanks to my searches reveals it is 36 hours) however, we cannot find information about which days of the week it leaves. I've read conflicting things. We need to leave on a Sunday. I've read both things that…
