Car & motorcycle
Car
Consider renting a car for easier exploration of the island’s beaches. Beware that prices are generally high (per day without/with air-con R$85/110) and traffic can be deadly on weekends.
Latina Rent a Car (9945 6652; latinarc@terra.com.br) Includes pick-up and drop-off at the airport, bus station or hotel.
Yes Rent a Car (3236 0229; Rua Deputado Diomício Freitas 3241) Offices at the airport, in central Floripa and in Canasvieiras; also offers car delivery.
Bus & tram
Bus
The island of Santa Catarina has a remarkably efficient bus service (R$2). Buses for the east coast and south island (including Lagoa and Joaquina) depart from the local bus terminal on Rua Antônio Luz. Buses for the north depart from the local bus terminal on Rua Francisco Tolentino. Additional yellow microbuses (R$4) follow the same routes: their advantages include air-conditioning, fewer stops, direct routes to the beaches and room for surfboards.
