Built from the ruins of an early-19th-century building, this luxury boutique hotel is the definition of elegant sophistication. The hotel's thematic decor conforms to its name: The House of Old Doors.

The overall look here is classy international standard. Each of the 15 rooms is deluxe, with decadent dark wood furnishings, thick carpet, heavy drapes and a classic beige colour scheme. Each is unique and named something thematic like the Ferrolho (Bolt) or Trinco (Latch) Suite. A myriad of room amenities ensure a comfortable stay, and the hotel has a well-equipped business centre and small fitness room. A soak in the jacuzzi should soothe the most travel-weary souls. The hotel has an international, fine-dining restaurant and a small bar, which is convenient as it lies in an impoverished historical neighbourhood, and walking in the immediate area is not advised. The hotel recommends travelling by taxi to all destinations, even if a temptingly short walk away.
