Bus

The bus station (3221 4615) is 4km north of the city center.

Bonfim (3335 4629, 3336 1112) buses go to Salvador on Hwy BR-101 via Entre Rios (R$50, 10½ hours, daily) or along the coastal Linha Verde highway (R$65, nine hours, three daily). There is a direct Linha Verde bus (R$40, eight hours, one weekly). Bonfim also has a daily comercial (R$25, six hours) and executivo (R$34, 4½ hours) bus to Aracaju.

São Geraldo (3223 4560) goes to João Pessoa (R$40, six hours, three weekly), Recife (R$30 to R$44, four hours, 14 daily) and Natal (R$78, nine hours, daily).

For Penedo, Real (3356 1324) has an expresso litoral (coastal express; R$17, 2½ hours, two daily), pinga litoral (coastal drip; R$17, four hours, two daily) and numerous bestas (R$17, 2½ hours). These buses provide access to Barra de São Miguel and Pontal do Coruripe.

Transportation for the northern coast (except Maragogi) can be caught at the bus station or at the posto (gas station) Mar Azul at the northern edge of town, two blocks from the Cruz das Almas/Vaticano city bus ­terminal.

To reach Praia do Francês and nearby points south, there are frequent minibuses departing from a stop behind a Texaco petrol station (Rua Dias Cabral & Zacarias de Azevedo) southwest of Maceió’s center.
