For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
Anyone going to Fortaleza in July? I will be there for most of the month. I live elsewhere in Brazil but keep an apartment in Fort. for holidays and will be there this July. I can give tips and orientations. Ciao.
My boyfriend and I are planning to visit the chapada diamatina in a few weeks for a few days. Out off the available topics I can't deduce if it's also possible to visit the park yourself by a rental car and stay the night in the park camping or in a local village? Or is the park to 'rough' to do without a guide? I can't say we're both really die hard hikers, but not total nitwits either. I hope you can help us out, we would prefer to do it ourselves if it's a safe and a nice option.

I am planing a backpackertour through Brazil and at the moment I am looking for a 4 day Amazon tour. I am planing on celebrating my birthday there - this is why I am looking for a nice lodge that offers a bit more luxury rooms but still nice trips to go fishing or for seeing wild animals. Any suggestions? I already looked at Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge - did anyone stay there?
I'm planning a three week trip to Brazil this fall and I am toying with the idea of doing a PADI certificate course.
Does anyone know of a company or person that do english-language courses?
The geography is not that important since I have plenty of time :)
I have tried looking around but I only seemed to find websites in portuguese.
I will probably be going to Brazil for two or three weeks in January and am curious about Amazon river tours from Manaus. Can anyone give advice for companies that give low key, affordable boat rides or tours down the Amazon?
I heard of a $17 a day boat called the Dois Irmaos that can go all the way to the Bolivian border. Has anyone taken this boat and knows how to guarantee tickets for it? The boat ride is four days I believe-is it possible to stop on the second or third day and take a…
I have a 9 day trip to Brazil planned and want to see a few gems in a 'doable' distance from Rio. So far I cam up with the following itinerary: 2 days Paraty, 3 days Ilha Grande, 4 days with arrival/departure in Rio. i am not the biggest big city fan, so i haven't planned more than 2 and a bit days in Rio, but for the rest I was wondering....are both Paraty & Ilha Grande mainly beach & chill locations? Should I substitute Ilha Grande for Ouro Preto?
I'm considering going to Brazil for two to three weeks during my January break from school.
I read online that visas are required for tourists to go to Brazil but whats the likelihood of getting one if I'm a student traveling solo in hostels and such? I'm concerned about buying a $1000 flight ticket and then having my visa rejected.
Also, four bank statements are required for residents applying through the New York consulate-my funds should only be around 3 or 4 grand at the time of…
