For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

My next destination after Brazil is Mexico City. And it is pretty expensive to catch a flight from Brazil to Mexico City so I was thinking I should go overland until I reach Bogota and then take flights from there to Mexico City. I say this because it seems that the cheapest way to get to Mexico City from South America is via Lima, Peru. Price-wise, it seems to be ~$500 from Brazil, and about ~$400 and up from any other country. It's about ~$280 from Lima and about $350 from Bogota. I have time…

I will be in Brazil in a few weeks and was planning on visiting Moro de Sau Paulo and Lencois. My goal is to go somewhere that is rural, safe, has virtually no tourists (meaning no English, only Portuguese), and will allow me to be in authentic Brazil.

Are my two selections accurate and good choices? I think Lencois should be just right but I'm not sure about Morro. I think it probably is really safe but is it just all tourists? If so, then I'll select somewhere else. Thank you.

Hi there!

I'm a university student from Canada and I've found this great opportunity to do my degree by correspondence (Everything online) where meanwhile I can live in this great hostel/ self development center in Florianopolis. Hi all,

This is one of those typical questions that might have been asked before, but couldn't find anything with my search (can be a lousy searcher).

I am currently looking to fly from Amsterdam to Rio (GIG) and arrive their at 19.35 - according to the KLM website.
I have to be in Brasilia (BSB) asap, hence found a flight at 21.30, with Avianca to Brasilia. I would book these two tickets separately and thus not covered by KLM or any other party if i miss my flight.

Now the question is; is…

We challenged our contact to prepare a 10-day itinerary of beaten path in north east of Brazil. Far from the tourist tours that usually people use to book in this region of Brazil.
Her itinerary did not disappoint. Nor did our guide who, after 10days together, we consider our grand friend.
We start our trip in Sao Luis of Maranaho going down to the famous village of Jericoacoara with 03 days stop in the Lencois Maranhenses national park 01 days in the delta of Parnaiba and 05 days in…

Hello all,

I'm planning a 14-night trip to Bahia this month (June). I'm flying into Salvador and out of Porto Seguro. I have been to Salvador before, but was 16 years ago. I will be traveling alone and enjoy art, architecture, beaches, photography, and kayaking. I like authentic places, but I'm not averse to a little rustic luxury.

I visited Salvador and Cachoeira in 2001 and loved both places. Because I am not currently in the US, I am having trouble finding a Bahia guidebook. The ones…

Hello travelers!

My boyfriend and I are going to the sand dunes in Brazil (lençois de Maranhao) at the end of July. We are trying to find out how to get a guide (we're more than willing to join a group! And I speak portugues, so no need to have an english speaking guide) to do a 4-5 day trek from Atins to Santo Amaro. We're travelling on a budget, so are not looking for luxury.

Any tips for the guide/agency/pousada...? Also, we read about some deals (1000$R) but can't seem to figure out what…

My family and I are doing a round the world trip in 2018/19. My kids will be 7 and 8. We will be arriving in to Rio from New Zealand at the end of Feb / early March. We planned just to spend a couple of days in Rio doing the main sights, then head to Iguazu and spend a month in Argentina. I recently discovered we could be in Rio for the 2019 carnival on March 3rd. My question is, would you recommend this, in particular with children? I think we'd all love to see the spectacle but Will it be…

Helllo!

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on flying within Brazil. I'll be in Brazil this August and my journey will include several domestic flights, is the best option usually to find flights on skyscanner and book them as soon as possible or it would be a similar/cheaper price if I waited until last minute and booked them at travel agencies in Brazil.

Booking last minute would be preferable as commiting to specific dates isn't ideal, I would prefer to have more freedom, but of course…
