Lonely Planet review for Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso

The Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso is a 25-minute boat ride from Ponta Negra, which is itself a 20-minute bus ride from the center. Fortunately, the trip there is part of the fun, and can be combined with a stop at Praia da Lua, Manaus's best beach. Guided tours include an opulent rubber baron's townhouse and a replica rubber tapper shack, and walking a short trail to see how rubber trees are tapped, and the latex processed in a thatch smoke house.

A bit gimmicky but still interesting, and the only place in Manaus to learn about this all-important history. Boats to the museum (25 minutes) leave frequently from Marina Davi, just past Ponta Negra. Take Bus 011, 012, or 120 (20 minutes) from the center, get off at the turnaround (right in front of the Hotel Tropical) and hop onto the free 'Especial' to the marina.

Most interesting place nearby Manaus! Visit it!

    e_v_a recommends this,

In the past the Museu do Seringal was a rubber farm and demonstrates now the history of the rubber boom. The farm was built in the last years of the 18th century. It is preserved in the condition the last owner left it in the 1950s.
You will see how the workers extracted rubber from the trees and how the processed the rubber. But even more important is the fact, that the work was done by slaves. The Guide from the Museum is the son of man of the last enslaved generation. He explains how the people got into slavery and how they had to live there.

For me it was the most interesting POI during our stay nearby Manaus!
