For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
Dear ThronTree community,
I am planning a trip with my boyfriend in January and I would need your knowledge. We are planning 16 days in January from which 4 will be for Rio and probably 3/4 others for Salvador. For the 8 remaining days, we would like to explore a beautiful area with wildlife and beautiful landscapes. I have seen that Pantanal is better for wildlife and Chapada has unique scenic views. I am hesitating between both because of:
- transportation: what is the easiest to access in…
Hi all I've recently just come back from Rio de Janeiro which was brilliant may I add, but whilst there I did spend a day in a private hospital the Copa D'or before they see you, you must either pay 375 real for a consultation & then medical costs on top of that or they take your travel insurance details before a doctor Will see you in which I gave the latter anyway after my short stay they got me to sign a piece of paperwork etc and let me go on my way.. So I thought my travel insurance had…
I would like to have some opinions about my next July - August 2016 trip: 19 days (included flyghts from/to Europe)
Sao Paulo 2 days (we have already been in the past and it is just to meet some friends)
By bus to Ouro Preto. Is it feasible or is it better to fly first to Belo Horizonte?
Ouro Preto: 1 or 2 days?
Tiradentes: 1 or 2 days?
By bus to Rio
Rio: 3 days
By bus to Paraty

By bus to Ilhabela
Ilhabela: how many days?
By bus to Sao Paulo…
I notice that the park is probably best seen in summer, but I will be in this part of Brasil around the middle of january.
My question - is it OK to see this place at that time of the year? How long time should I set aside, coming from Sao Luis?
Your feedback most welcome.
We just arrived to Rio and the weather report is terrible for our planned party & ilha grande trip. So we want to make a last minute switch to more sunnier regions: Bahia or the northeast coast line.
Would you have any recommendations for a good beach-activity (snorkelling, surfing, etc.) and nature trip?
We found chapada diamantina which looks amazing, but not sure it is doable (flight to salvador + 7h bus and we only have suitcases not backpacks). And views on this spot? Can you somehow get…
Just wondering how much time is required in Igauzu falls?
If we arrive on the first day at 11am and leaving third day 6am to Rio.
How would you split the time between both Argentinean and Brazilian side with our 1.5 days?
I heard that the brazil side is smaller and just require half a day; whereas the argentinean side require a full day.
We have first night booked in the Argentinean side and the second night booked in Brazilian side.
Otherwise, maybe first day we can spend the…
I have 2 questions about Brasil.
First Question. If I want to spend about 4 days chilling on a beach with my caipirinha, Brasilian food and hospitality, plus maybe some pretty nature and jungle to explore, shall I spend those days outside of Rio or Salvador? Both are on my itinerary, but I haven't booked much. I will be in Salvador for Carnaval. I have been to both Morro do Sao Paolo and Ilha Grande and would like to go somewhere different.
Second Question. I have allowed 6 days in…
