For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Only on Fridays, it appears that the Rapido Federal bus to Lencois from Terminal Rodoviário de Salvador leaves at 11:30 PM. I am looking at a flight on GOL arriving into SSA airport at 10:08 PM. Assuming the flight is on time (historically shows generally on time), is that enough time (1 h 22 min) to catch a cab at the airport and get to the bus station at that time of night in time for the 11:30 PM bus? I would have my ticket in hand already so I won't need to wait in line to buy one at the…

I just wanna share my experience while taking half day tour package in Rio de Janeiro. Maybe any of you had a good time with this operator. Unfortunately it didn't happen happen as planned.

This is so dissapointing when i had to spend almost one and an hour at the meeting point this day for my Favela Walking Tour with www.favelawalkingtour.com.br and no one from the tour picked me up. I could not contact the tour immediately because there was no wifi connection and I didn't have local simcard…

What is the appeal? I was chatting with someone from Rio and they said they wanted to visit Miami. To me Miami is cool, but I imagine that Miami is a watered down version of Rio. I guess it is the US and there is good shopping maybe. A friend of mine said he could see someone from Rio wanting to go to Miami because it is safer.

What is your take. Explain to me please.

Hi,
We are currently planning a 4-5 week trip in Brazil in August. We are budget travellers who also like to spend a decent amount of time in a place, not just rushing through the big sights. We have a preliminary route which is listed below:

However we are a bit confused about the Panatal area. We love the look of chapada dos guimaraes and snorkelling in bonito etc however with a limited budget will 2 weeks around this area be too much? Does everything require a tour or can we do some things…

I will be one week in Pantanal, from April 20-27. Part of this time I will be with local biology researchers that work in the area of Pocone. However I would like to also spend a few days more in the heart of the pantanal and explore the rivers. I have read about Porto Jofre but I am somewhat overwhelmed by the information. I am not a fan of guided touristic tours, but since I don't have a boat :-) I would prefer small groups and tours more oriented towards wildlife and remote places. I will…

I've read a lot of threads about going from Puerto Iguazu, Argentina to the Brazilian side for the day without a visa (as required for US citizens), but it's not clear if it's a common situation that is unofficially allowed or one of avoiding getting caught. Also, if it's 'allowed,' does that hold for an overnight stay?
If there's a real risk of problems, is there an easy way to get a visa on demand? Our bus arrives at Puerto Iguazu at 6:30am on Sunday, so we'd have to wait until Monday, right…

Hey everyone.

The title says it all. I'm looking to do a multi day trail (4-7 days) that doesn't require a guide. I've hiked in various other countries (with/without guides) and done long stints on the PCT/AT solo. I also speak Portuguese fluently.

I fully understand that many trails change by season and local use and don't have good maps and therefore are not really able to be hiked without a guide. I also understand that in some countries/parks it's just rude to not use a local guide. I…
