For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea.…
Hey there, I've decided that a flight might be out of my budget so looking into speedboats from Manaus-> Tabatinga, Tabatinga-> Iquitos. Has anyone done this recently and know a trustworthy company or have any tips on travelling safely? I've read that these boats do exist, but leave once a week with no evidence of what that day might be.
Any information, especially from women would be amazing!
Can anyone recommend any cheap tours or guides In Rio? Interested in the waterfalls, Cristo and a few other things. If someone has a local friend I'd be happy to buy them lunch or something for help :) every tour I'm seeing is $$$!
We plan to rent a car in Salvador for about a week, to go to Chapada Diamantina and some places on the way. Is it more reasonable to pre-book the car with well-established international company such as Alamo or find something local?
You think booking in advance is a good idea, or just walk in and rent on the spot?
Also, is it possible to extend pre-booked rental for a day if in need?
we Want to go from la paz to the pantanal. What is the easy and cheap Way. Are there anything we need to see in Bolivia on the Way to the pantanal. We Want to do a guided Tour in the pantanal 3 Nights or 2. Do we need to book in advangae. I Think we Will go to the north because of the Price..

Looked nice, not very spectacular though (I am comparing to places such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka and others in Asia). Someone told us beaches around Bahia are crowded and not…
We are planning a few days of exploration (5-6) in Chapada Diamantina in Bahia. I am thinking of renting a car in Salvador, going there with the car and exploring by car. I am not really into the organized tours mood.
But, I would love to go mountain biking there - possibly load up the bikes to the trunk of the car (thinking of renting a combi) and blaze the trails on bikes. Getting to places unreachable by car etc. Is it possible to rent decent mountain bikes somewhere in lencois?

I have searched this topic as I know it is one that many people have asked questions about - but a lot of the information seems to contradict each other, so I would like to ask my question here.
I am a UK citizen and intend to stay in Brazil for about three months - I am aiming for 90 days so as to not have to worry about overstaying my initial visa. However, it would be nice to have a bit of flexibility to stay, say 100 days or so. About two months into my stay, I am intending to…
