For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
I am searching for a cheap ticket from Europe to Brazil in late august or early September. I am flexible as far as dates go. As I am moving to Brazil for an extended period of time, I will only be searching for a one way ticket. In your experience, what is the cheapest way of getting around buying a one-way ticket, since promotional and discount prices for plane travel, are usually limited to purchase of return tickets? Are there ways of buying return tickets and thus taking advantage…
How goes it all?
I have been traveling in Brazil since December and using the Thorn Tree Forum for tips this whole trip. This is my first post.
I have researched high and low for the best hostels, here on the forum, guidebooks, blogs etc. What I have found was that the best hostels I have found have been from the mouths of travelers themselves.
Hi there! I am planning a trip through South America for my parents, and I am thinking of taking them from Rio to the Pantanal/ Bonito....via Campo Grande. They are in their early to late 60s...and although they love beautiful landscapes, and doing slow walks, and what not, they wouldn't be doing any adventurous activities e.g. snorkelling, intense hiking, and so on. We are arriving at 15:10 on 24/5 (IGU) and leaving at 12:43 (midday) on 27/05 (IGU).
Are the distances far? Where should we get accommodation? We were thinking to stay first night at Brazilian side, second at Argentinian side and third again at Brazilian. How would you do that? And which area should we be staying?
We are after a budget option (absolute maximum £50 a night including taxes/fees, etc) - total £200 for 4 nights. We have looked at the hostels, but mixed reviews. So far, we've looked at an Airbnb property in Ipanema https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/692696 which is a room with a shared bathroom, breakfast - £155 for 4 nights (cheapest). We found a hostel called Leblon All Suites Design which has limited reviews, but private en-suite, for £195 for 4 nights including breakfast, etc and the top…
We are planning a 3-week trip to Brazil in October-November, together with our kids aged 2.5 and 5. We have 2 itineraries in mind, and would welcome your tips and comments.
