Guajará-Mirim Getting there & around

Getting there & around

The bus station (541 2448; Av 15 de Novembro) is about 2km east of the center. There is no public transportation to the bus station; a taxi to or from the station to the center of town costs R$10. Your hotel receptionist can call a cab, or you may find some parked at the port, or at the park at Avs 15 de Novembro and Costa Marques. Simply waiting for one to pass can take a while, however.

Real Norte (3541 2302) runs six daily buses to Porto Velho (ordinary R$31, direct R$35, five hours), and one to Rio Branco (R$49, seven to eight hours).

Passenger boats sail up the Mamoré and Guaporé Rivers from Guajará-Mirim to the Forte Príncipe da Beira (hammock including meals R$90, 40 hours) about every eight to 10 days. Return trips are the same frequency, but take about half as long. Ask at the moorings at the end of Av Dr Antônio da Costa. Fast boats can make the trip in about eight hours, but cost considerably more.

Occasional boats go up the Guaporé as far as Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade in Mato Grosso.
