Algodoal

Getting there & around

Access to Algodoal is via the mainland village of Marudá. Boats leave there for Algodoal (R$5, 40 minutes) four to five times daily, with the last departure at 5pm. If you’re arriving by bus from Belém, be sure to leave by 12:30pm in order to catch a boat to Algodoal.

Arriving at Algodoal, the boat drops you at the beach, where a slew of donkey carts will vie for the chance to take you to your hotel (per person R$3 to R$5). Be aware that some hotels pay commissions to drivers to bring tourists there; it’s possible that ‘such-and-such hotel burned down’ is true, but you can still insist on seeing for yourself, usually at no extra cost.

Boats return to the mainland five to seven times per day; the first is always at 6am, the last at 1:30pm Monday to Thursday, 3pm on Friday and 5pm on Sunday.
