Nova Livraria Leonardo da Vinci
With one of Rio's best foreign-language book collections, da Vinci also has a wide range of art and photography books, as well as coffee-table books about Rio's history and architecture. It's one floor down; follow the spiral ramp. There's a decent coffee shop nearby.

Shopping Leblon
The best new shopping destination in Rio is this glittering multistory shopping center packed with top-name Brazilian and foreign labels. There are plenty of tempting stores that will drain your vacation funds, as well as good restaurants, a cinema and a well-placed Starbucks (one of the few outposts in Rio), complete with a live piano player.

Livraria Prefácio
This charming bookshop stocks a small selection of foreign titles as well as music. And perusers need not go hungry or thirsty while they browse for titles: a slender bar in front delivers refreshing glasses of chope (draft beer), while seating upstairs and in the café in back offers heartier fare. The bookshop hosts an occasional poetry reading or record-release party.

Botafogo Praia Shopping
Botafogo's large shopping center has dozens of stores, featuring Brazilian and international designers to suit every style – and clothe every part of the body. The 3rd floor's the best for top designers: check stores such as Philippe Martins, Giselle Martins, Osklen and Equatore. The mall also has a cinema and several top-floor restaurants, such as Emporium Pax, with great panoramic views.
