Lonely Planet review for Famiglia Mancini

Another Paulista tradition, this cozy cantina manages to be both homey and upscale, and serves up classic, delicious northern Italian fare on family-style platters.

    Disappointing

    brazilian2203 does not recommend this,

This was once one of my favorite restaurants in Sao Paulo. There are three Famiglia Mancini restaurants within a few hundred feet of each other. The main restaurant was closed last year for remodeling. It reopened this year. Following reopening, I went there with anticipation but was I disappointed. The menu prices have nearly doubled and the service is awful. The waiters are more concerned with getting customers to buy extra items than allowing them to order from the menu. The service is slow and you have several waiters serving each table. This causes confusion when you order something from one waiter and a different waiter brings you something other than what you ordered. The restaurant is no longer a nice restaurant for a nice dinner. Instead, the restaurant has become a tourist trap where one can still get a nice dinner but you will pay a lot more than you paid before the remodeling and you will get awful service. You see, someone has to pay for the expense of the remodeling. Obviously, the customers will do that for the owners. I will not be back again. By the way, even after my first visit after the remodel, I returned for a second try thinking that perhaps the first visit following the remodeling was an unusual occurrence. However, the second time was as bad as the first.
