    This new neighborhood favorite sells beautifully designed chocolates out of its picture-book store. The artisanal truffles, chocolate cakes and mini tarts look too lovely to eat - though not doing so would be a serious mistake.

  2. Deu La Deu Vinhos

    Copacabana's best wine shop is hidden on a quiet street one block from the beach. In addition to a fair assortment of Chilean and Argentine vintages, you'll find a few decent Brazilian labels like Casa Vadulga and Miolo. A wide assortment of cachaças and other spirits round out the offerings.

  3. Expand Wine Store

    This well-stocked wine shop is a great place to buy a few bottles while out exploring Centro. Chile, Argentina and 11 other countries are represented among the vintages. The 2nd floor has a wine bar where you can taste those velvety malbecs and merlots.

  4. Hortifruti

    Leblon's popular indoor produce market features a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as a small juice bar.

  5. Kopenhagen

    Serving up tasty bonbons and other decadent chocolate treats, Kopenhagen has been satisfying children and chocoholics since 1928. There's a tiny café on hand if you can't resist the temptation to devour those cognac-filled truffles right there. There's another store in Copacabana.

    One of Leblon's best wine shops, Lidador stocks a decent variety of good Chilean and Argentinean wines as well as vintages from Europe and beyond. Cachaças, rums and even Brazilian wines are available if you're looking for something with a little more bite.

    Brazil's largest health-food retailer, Mundo Verde sells organic products, including salgados (bar-type snacks), and other snacks besides; jams made from Amazonian fruits; and other assorted goods. The sun-care products are usually cheaper here than in pharmacies - and much better for your skin.

  8. Talho Capixaba

    This tiny deli and grocery store is one of the city's best spots to put together a takeout meal. In addition to pastas, salads and antipastos, you'll find some of the city's best sandwiches. At weekends, to accommodate the crowds, Talho Capixaba puts a few tables out on the sidewalk for customers to enjoy the tasty bites alfresco.

  9. Wöllner Outdoor

    The great outdoors, and the shirt and shorts you'll need to enjoy it, seem to be the inspiration for Wöllner. Clothes and accessories are ruggedly styled, not unlike Abercrombie and American Eagle. Once you've browsed the selections, grab a cafézinho (small black coffee) and a chocolate tort at the café in front.

    A Rio institution for 44 years, Zona Sul supermarket has branches all over the city. The one in Leblon is the best of the bunch, with fresh-baked breads, imported cheeses, olives, French Bordeaux, prosciutto and many other delicacies.
