Lonely Planet review for Azumi

This low-key sushi bar is a favorite among the nisei (second-generation Japanese) community. Azumi’s sushiman (sushi chef) masterfully prepares delectable sushi and sashimi. The tempuras and soups are also excellent.

Best Japanese Food in Rio de Janeiro

    danstrougo recommends this,

In 2008, AZUMI have beaten its main competitor SUSHI LEBLON as the best Japanese Food in Rio de Janeiro, according to the VEJA Magazine Review (main restaurant contest in Rio).

Don't expect a cool and neat atmosphere, neither nice smiling waiters. AZUMI is such well known only by its great/marvelous/incredible food. Ran by japonese descendants, the quality and diversification of the fresh fishes that is offered is amazing.

    Two tips:
    1) Do not sit on regular tables. Try sitting on the counter where the sushimen work. There, you must simply ask him to surprise you and suddenly, all kinds of different dishes will come to you.
    2) They have live lobster. These lobster are eaten raw and fresh, having been killed just before the arrival on your plate. Yummy!!!!
