Tacacá do Norte
In the Amazonian state of Pará, people order their tacacá late in the afternoon from their favorite street vendor. In Rio, you don't have to wait until the sun is setting. The fragrant soup of manioc paste, jambu (a Brazilian vegetable) leaves, and fresh and dried shrimp isn't for everyone. But then again, neither is the Amazon. This simple lunch counter also offers excellent açai (juice made from an Amazonian berry) and other juices, as well as Amazonian dishes like pirarucu.

Arataca
The casual, no-nonsense Arataca serves the exotic cuisine of the Amazon. While there's better tacacá on offer in Rio (Flamengo's Tacacá do Norte, , is the city's best), Arataca is a handy spot to grab a savory bowl of the soup. There's also pirarucu (a kind of fish), pato no tucupi (roast duck flavored with garlic) or vatapá, all of which go nicely with real guarana juice.

Amazônia Soul
This tiny new café doles out small plates of caranguejo (crab meat), vatapá (a puree of manioc, dried shrimp, coconut and dendê oil) and tacacá a complicated soup made of tapioca, shrimp and manioc root. You can also sample juices and ice creams made from Amazonian fruits. The small shop inside sells handicrafts and edible items from the Amazon.
