For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea.…
Just thought I would check with some of you Rio experts about my upcoming trip to Rio and your thoughts on me visiting a baile funk. I have visited Rio countless times, love the natural beauty, people and nightlife. I have always been intrigued by favelas and have been to many, however never for a proper baile. I'm not talking about the old Castelao das Pedras free for all style, I'm talking about a proper local's baile. I will be staying in Cascadura and am currently tossing up…

I and another nature photographer friend want to experience the Pantanal on a do-it-yourself basis, travelling in our own time, stopping to take photos as we please. We would also like to see a jaguar. Deciding when to go, flying to Cuiaba and hiring a car is easy to organise. Deciding which lodges to book and getting them to answer emails is quite another! Has anybody any tips?
Hello ! About 10 days we will go to Brazil and we have booked the flight to Rio de Janeiro. After 1 month around the Ilha Grande, Angra dos Reis and Paraty we had thought to travel down to the Pantanal and then Iguazu . But since it takes quite a long time in the bus , we thinking of take a domestic flight from Rio to Iguazu and Pantanal and start there, and then take a domestic flight to Rio de janeiro again. Is it good to be in the area around Iguazu and Pantanal over longer time ? And does…
Hello fellow travellers !!
I would love some advice for my very fast approaching trip to South America.
I am getting quite overwhelmed trying to plan the trip from Salvador to BA. The more research I do the more places I find I just have to get to!!
I am travelling alone. Starting in Salvador, Brazil and finishing up in Cartagena, Colombia. At this stage the only time limit I have is the first leg of my trip.
I fly into Salvador on the 18th of November and need to be in Buenos Aires by the…
Is there an efficient and cheap way to get directly from the airport of Rio to Ilha Grande? We prefer to go directly and not first go into Rio with all the hussle, but that might be expensive. If anyone knows, let me know!
Dear fellow travellers,
As of the 1th of February I will head to Brazil, which will be the startingpoint for me and my girlfriend's 6 months trip through Brazil, Columbia and Central America.
We're starting in Salvador due to serveral reasons; firstly I cannot seem to find any affordable flights to Manaus without a stop in either Salvador or Rio - and if we're already in Salvador, why not look around for a week or so? Furthermore I fell in love with Bahian culture when I last visited Brazil…
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to travel from Rio to Caraiva, we're desperate to visit both places but ideally would like to go directly from Rio there as we're on a tight time schedule but if not we want to make a stop over worth it, I'm on my gap year so budget is also important! If you have any suggestions please let me know.
