Brazil Frequently Asked Questions

For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea.…

visas, bureaucracy, brazil, marriage

I'm on my second 90 day tourist visa in Brazil. I've lived here previously for three and half years in SP but currently living in Rio Grande do Sul with a guy. I"m looking at ways to extend my stay while I work out if this relationship is something I really want to commit to. The idea of marriage has been raised between us but more for the sake of not being forced to leave than because either of us really believes strongly in the institution of marriage or has romantic fantasies of a lovely…

After doing exhaustive searches on both the internet and here on thorntree, I have to turn to the fellow travelers on this board. If anyone knows the answer and has recent information, it will be greatly appreciated! We are planning to take the slow boat from Manaus to Tefe (which thanks to my searches reveals it is 36 hours) however, we cannot find information about which days of the week it leaves. I've read conflicting things. We need to leave on a Sunday. I've read both things that…

Map for Central and South America

Hi!
My partner and I are driving through Central and South America in 2015. We are however finding it difficult to find electronic/GPS maps for our laptop and wondered if anyone knew of anything. We also would be interested in a good paper map of Central and South America.

Many Thanks

So from what I've read there are slow boats and fast boats and that I need to start by going from Manaus to Tabatinga and from Tabatinga to Iquitos.

My questions are:

How long does it take traveling from Manaus to Tabatinga with the slow boat, and with the fast boat?
What is the price difference between the fast boat and the slow one?
